Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
The Emergency Medical Technician diploma prepares
students to provide immediate medical care in emergency and trauma situations.
Emergency Technicians are the first responders in critical conditions such as
accidents, cardiac arrest, strokes, burns, and other emergencies. They are
trained to stabilize patients, perform life-saving interventions, and assist
physicians and paramedics in hospitals and ambulance services. This diploma
ensures both theoretical knowledge and practical field experience in emergency
medicine.

Regulatory Body: Sindh Board of Technical Education (SBTE), Karachi — Govt. of Sindh, Pakistan
• Measurement of vital signs (Pulse, BP, Respiration, Temperature)
• Basic airway management (head-tilt, chin-lift, jaw-thrust techniques)
• Oxygen administration and use of masks, nasal cannula, Ambu bag
• Basic ECG monitoring and recognition of abnormal rhythms
• Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) – Adult, Child, Infant
• Use of Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
• Patient positioning for respiratory distress and cardiac emergencies
• Triage methods (START/JumpSTART triage system)
• Control of external bleeding (direct pressure, tourniquet use)
• Splinting and immobilization of fractures
• Management of burns and crush injuries
• Safe patient lifting, moving, and transportation techniques
• Establishing disaster response zones (hot, warm, cold zones)
• Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in mass-casualty settings
• Communication and coordination with disaster response teams
• Safe ambulance driving protocols and patient transport positioning
• Preparation and maintenance of ambulance emergency kits
• Infection control and sterilization practices in ambulances
• Documentation and patient handover to hospital staff
• Use of stretcher, spine board, and cervical collar during transport
• Monitoring patients en route (vital signs, airway, IV fluids if applicable)
• Emergency communication with control room and hospitals
• Simulation of pre-hospital emergency scenarios
